High above the Gulf of Tunis, Sidi Bou Saïd keeps one law — cobalt and white. Whitewashed houses cling to the cliff, their doors, shutters and mashrabiya grilles painted the deep blue Baron d'Erlanger fixed for good; magenta bougainvillea spills over the walls the way it did when Klee and Macke came here to paint. The poster climbs from the marina of yachts far below to a lone minaret, past cascading blossom and studded blue doors. « SIDI BOU SAÏD — Le Village des Artistes » runs across the top in classic vintage serif.
